1. Getting Started!

(Approximate Time: ~ 1 hour)

Welcome to Deep Dive’s FullStack Flex Bootcamp!!

Getting Started

We are excited that you are here and ready to learn full-stack web development! With Deep Dive Learning Academy’s thorough curriculum and individualized mentorship sessions, we will be with you every step of the way towards achieving your new career goals.

Over the course of the next 3 weeks, you will learn the building blocks of web development – HTML, CSS, and JavaScript basics. It’s okay if those terms sound foreign to you at the moment. Our curriculum is designed for learners at all levels, including those with zero prior web development knowledge.

After 3 weeks, we will get into more Advanced Web Development Topics, so make sure you work extra hard on your fundamentals during your first 3 weeks!

Each week has checkpoints and you will be working through each of them in order and marking them complete once finished. This ensures that you remain laser-focused towards completing just one task at any given point!

Each checkpoint should take approximately 1 to 4 hours to complete. On average, you should be able to complete each week’s workload in 18 to 20 hours. This is of course the minimum level of effort we expect our attendees to devote to their preparations. As with anything, the more effort you put into your preparations, the sooner you will likely start your new and/or better career!

We make every effort to keep each checkpoint concise and interesting so that there is never a dull moment throughout the entire curriculum!

Checkpoints are composed of one or more tasks including:

  • Readings
  • Coding Exercises
  • Video Tutorials
  • Quizzes
  • Graded Assignments

While that may appear to be a daunting list of tasks at the moment, each task includes detailed instructions and you can also reach out to us for assistance (more on that later). So rest assured that you will be given the tools to succeed every step of the way!

We bring you the best and most concise content from some of the best resources around the web and study articles! Our goal is not to re-invent the wheel but to present you with whatever is the best for you to learn and for your career. We take the accountability of your success and provide you support through one-on-one mentorship. We will motivate you to stay on your path until you get there!

At the end of each topic, you will also find a Q&A section where we have included some of the most probable questions you may be asked during your technical interviews in the real world. This is a great resource to fill in the knowledge gaps on the technology you just learned. We recommend that you take around 1-2 hours to skim through the questions and their corresponding answers. Although it is important that you are knowledgeable of the answers to these questions, because they are rarely used in practice, knowing the surface-level solutions of those topics will suffice. Throughout the course of your bootcamp tenure, your mentor will provide you with more details in this area.

We extensively use Repl.it online coding editor within our curriculum content. It is one o the best coding editor which lets to practice the coding without needing you to install editor and set up your environment. Sometimes Repl.it editor (within your curriculum content) may take around one minute to load the coding examples. You can always open it externally as well.

While we always try to provide you with the best content on all the topics, there will be instances when we provide you links to external articles and/or videos. This is because the external resources we point you to are the best on that topic and we believe you will benefit greatly from consuming those third-party resources. In those cases, to minimize distractions and to save time, the resources will be imbedded in your Learning Management System.

Our data shows that the students who finish their tasks in a timely manner are also the ones who get the most out of the program. They also eventually receive multiple job offers from leading employers in the space. As a result, we strongly encourage you to give it your all into this program. We are confident that if you invest wholeheartedly into your preparations, you will land yourself a rewarding career shortly after graduation.

On any learning platform, nothing beats One-on-One Coaching! Therefore, you will be meeting with your mentor twice per week. We encourage you to have your questions ready so you can get the most out of your mentor sessions. There will be detailed instructions below on how to schedule your mentor calls. Our mentors will ensure that all of your questions are answered and also help you with understanding some of the more advanced topics. On occasion, they will also push you so you can become the best version of yourself!

Task 1.3 – Socialize Yourself
  1. Head over to Meetup.com and find some quality groups in your area that are related to fullstack web development. Try to attend at least 1-2 events each month so that you are constantly learning new things in the fast-changing technology industry and to also network with like-minded individuals!
  2. If you haven’t done so already, create a profile on LinkedIn and join at least 4 fullstack web development related groups (they can be in your area or not).
  3. Use your favorite RSS feed reader (such as feedly, flipboard) and subscribe to at least 5 good HTML, CSS, and JavaScript blogs. For a list of blogs, take a look at this link. Also install those apps on your phone so you can read the technical articles during your spare time.
